Pet Tags

Pet tags are by far the best way to protect your pets from getting lost and sent to animal control. Micro chips embedded into your pets cannot be seen by someone who may take your pet in to protect them. They also will not take your pet to a local vet to see if by chance they have the correct reader to read the chip that may or may not be there. If your pet is out of your neighborhood the person who was kind enough to take you pet in probably won’t see your reward posters and they will end up at the pound. If you have ever had a pet that ended up there you know how traumatizing it can be on them. The long ride in a hot cage and then being subjected to isolation in a lonely kennel is more than some can take.

With a simple piece of engraved metal attached to your pets’ collar you can save them from that trauma. And hopefully have them returned to you in a very timely manner. Just seeing the tag on your pets’ collar allows people to know that they are not a stray and that someone cares for them. I have seen many stray dogs running around my city and if they have a collar with a pet tag attached to it I am far more likely to want to help that pet get back to their owner.

If you have made the commitment to care for a pet then part of the obligation is to make sure they are as safe as possible. Do everything you can to make sure they are confined to your yard and on a leash when you take them out. But we all know there are some escape artists out there and accidents do happen; a door or a gate gets left open. My rottweiler can actually open doors, so I know how important it is to always keep her collar on and a pet tag attached that collar. The last thing I would ever want is to lose her just because she didn’t have a pet tags on her collar.
