Making money online

There is nothing for sale here. There are no affiliate links, this hub just had to be written to counteract some of the other crap on Hubpages. Here we go again, another hub about how to make money online. You have to be kidding me why would anyone think that we need more advice about how to write a hub, or how to get your hub on the first page of google.com. And for sure the last thing we need is another hub about how to make money online. Well you are right we don't need it, but we do need a hub about not taking advice from people who may lead you down the wrong road either intentionally or not. I am sure that most of these people believe that they are doing and saying the right things but I know for sure that "you don't know what you don't know"

Taking advice from and being led astray by people who present themselves as experts, but are really noobs or newbies who think it is time to start passing on their infinite wisdom will only lead you to a place you don't want to be. No I am not a noob I have been at this game for a very long time and have made it my job to learn as much as possible about internet marketing. I read hubs and everything else that I can find to gather nuggets of wisdom that people are willing to let go for free. I also learn from masters who really know what they are doing, and I pay for the privilege. No I won't tell you where to sign up or who really knows how to make money on the Internet, because that is not what this hub is truly about. This hub is about blowing holes in the real garbage on the Internet.

Most of the people on hubpages have read the hub "How I got my hub to be on Google's first page". That article is an interesting fairy tale to say the most. The hub that the hub is about is titled "2008 motorcycle guide" and I will freely admit that the hub is on the first page of Google's results when you search for the exact title of the hub. That is not really the problem, the problem starts when you start taking a closer look at the numbers. Here is a quote directly from that hub "Some subjects are harder to achieve. The motorcycle guide, I would class as medium difficult. There are around 200,000 results for this term, so I am happy to be there. One of my other hubs - Forex Trading Guide - is harder to achieve it with." Classifying "2008 motorcycle guide" as medium difficult is an absolute farce.

Here is what the numbers truly bear out. Searching for 2008 motorcycle guide shows 183,000 results returned. Not far off from what the author claims you may say. But let's take a look at the numbers a little bit closer, or shall I say like a person who understands what internet marketing is really about. As you will see in the first picture below if you go to google.com and search for 2008 motorcycle guide and then go through the pages you will come up with 840 results before Google will stop showing you more because of duplicates. Yup that's right only 840 pages that are really relevant to the subject at all.

Upon even closer inspection you will see that if you put quotation marks around the phrase “2008 motorcycle guide” then the results are even slimmer. Google shows as of the date this article was written exactly 362 pages with that exact phrase match. But wait there is more as Ron Popeil would say. Scroll through those results and you will find that there are exactly 23 pages that Google will show you before the results are repeated. Yes you read that correctly 23 pages. So now that you have part of the real facts, the accomplishment is not nearly as impressive is it made out to be. I say part because there is still more to this story if you want to know why this page ranks at the top. But first take a look at the picture below and go do the research for yourself if you think I am just full of crap. You will find everything that I have said to be true. Let me be more specific. Everything is true as of the writing of this article. This article will add at least one more result to Google for that exact phrase match.

Just a little more on why this major accomplishment is just a farce. If this article was written on a personal blog somewhere with low PR then it would not have gotten the results it did. But it wasn’t, it was written on Hubpages.com and the power of that brand gave it the clear edge that it needed to get the results it did. Google is in love with Hubpages right now and most articles get ranked fairly well for their subject matter. It also helps if you have a bunch of internal links from Hubpages pointing to the article in question. Internal linking is a fantastic strategy to use to help gather strength for your hubs.

Quickly I would also like to point out that the number of people who search for the phrase 2008 motorcycle guide is so low that Google and wordtracker.com don’t even keep stats on the phrase. I am not saying that the hub doesn’t get any visitors from Google directly to the page, but I am saying that from people searching for that exact phrase the numbers are so low that…….well who cares. You may say that it is early in the year and as the year grows older there will be more and more searches for that phrase. Well I thought about that also and looked up 2007 motorcycle guide and well it isn’t tracked either. If there aren’t at least 100 searches per day for the phrase it doesn’t register. I am going to do another hub about keyword research to help everyone understand that research is the key to making money online.

You may at this point be wondering why I would bother to write this article at all. Well after I read that Hub I was going to respond but decided that it would look petty if I did and that I should just let it go. I really don’t care if people want to believe the crap they read on the Internet, because just through laws of attrition the Internet is going to chew up and spit out 99% of all the people who try to make their living here. Sorry if you don’t like hearing that but it is true. Then today another hub comes out by the same author about how to make money on the Internet, so I went and read it and at that point decided that a response was in order. The writer in question is a well known though recent fixture here at hubpages.com and is fairly well liked, so I am sure that there will be some backlash from this article but that’s life. I am a big boy and I can defend every statement that I make.

So the new article starts out just like the other stating that the writer is not here to sell you anything, but self promotion is selling whether you choose to believe it or not. Linking to your personal blog and you other pages is selling, so why lie and say you are not selling anything. Wait I know why, it is because if you tell people you aren’t selling them anything then they are more receptive to being sold. As per selling 101. But then claiming to have the highest of morals and character after you have just lied to my face really starts to piss me off. I personally don’t mind being sold, if you can show me the benefits of what you have to offer then I am a buyer. What I don’t like is being lied to. If you need to lie to me to sell me what you have then I don’t want it even if it is a car that runs on water.

This hub is getting way too long and there are more issues that I want to address and one in particular that will require an entire hub by it’s self. That hub will be about why this quote is one thing that only a noob would bother to write. Or quite possibly someone who doesn’t want you to compete with them and hopes that you will continue to name your hubs “this really long name that no one will ever search for”. The quote is this, “I genuinely believe there is no need for keyword stuffing, long tail keyword phrase research or any other efforts that people use to cheat the system and get their garbage to the top of the results pile.” Well you may genuinely believe it but you are flat out wrong. Keyword research is the most important thing you can do in any online business. Keyword research can mean the difference of profit and loss, or success or failure. The Internet is all about keywords, it always has been and until Google or someone else comes up with something better then it will continue to be. Quite frankly without keyword research you are just spinning your wheels and are bound to get chewed up. And calling doing your homework cheating the system is a truly ignorant statement made to make you feel bad for doing the right thing to help yourself. Why bother to write if people aren’t going to read it? Why bother to make crap up to make yourself seem better? Keyword research is not cheating it is intelligent marketing. Period.

To wrap this thing up I just want to also point out like I did before that self promotion is selling even if you say it isn’t. When I go take a look at the personal blogs of the writer in question they are clearly hypocritical of everything that he claims on his hubs and even on his own blogs. Another quote “You cannot make money as a day trader on the foreign exchange market. But there are hundreds and thousand of websites, forums, discussion groups etc saying otherwise.” Ahh double talk at it’s finest. “You cannot make money as a day trader on the foreign exchange.” But now I am going to follow that sentence up with but there are hundreds and thousands of people who say I am wrong so let me lead you to some products that I will make money off of, so that you can decide for yourself. I’m not selling you anything……just a bunch of lies and deceit that if you really take a look at what I write then you will see right through me. I will tell you to take down you banner ads and then I will put up banner ads at my site to sell you a Forex product that you don’t need because you will never make money at it. Not only will I do that but I will do it while both posts are still on the front page of my blog.

I am sure it sounds like I am taking cheap shots at someone I don’t even know, and well yeah I guess I am. But it was time for someone to give you some real information about what information to be very careful of. Some people have ulterior motives even when they try to come off as a nice guy who is only here to help you out. Don’t take advice from people who don’t really know what they are talking about, or maybe they do and just want to lead you astray. Even if you feel like you know them and that they have your best interests at heart. You don’t really know me either and this hubs is very critical, and maybe critical of someone who you respect, all I ask is that you do the same research that I did for yourself and then come back and tell me that I am lying to you. I am definitely not the best writer in the world but I won’t lie to you. If I have something to sell you then I will flat out let you know up front. If what I have to sell is a benefit to you then you should buy it, if it isn’t then no hard feelings because I wasn’t deceitful in how I presented it. Let the flaming begin…………
