Pit bull puppies
Pit bull puppies are one of the cutest little animals you would ever hope to see. When pit bulls are still just puppies they need to be socialized very well. They need to be around other animals and strange people. Take them to the park and let the kids play with them, put them in unfamiliar surroundings and make sure they get a lot of praise and attention. Of course doing this with any dog is a good idea but for pit bulls it is essential to how they will react to humans and other animals as they get older, stronger, and more in control of their surroundings.
With proper care to socializing your pit bull puppies you can have a truly great companion and friend to share many happy years with. Get a dog training book that deals specifically with pit bulls and follow the advice. Make sure that you have the time necessary to spend training and socializing your pit bull puppies or you could end up with a dog that isn't fully what you expected when you picked that cute little guy from his litter mates.

Pts are really pretty and can be really good dogs. They need lots of love and care and good triaing but if they have that they can be the best guard dogs, the best play mate, the best protecters and a whole lot more. They shouldn't be judged, or banned from anywhere. THey are caring, loving, loyal dogs who only want to please. But they are very powerful and determined. Which makes tem ideal fighting dogs. But people make dogs bad. And they can be used for good. Like police dogs, and they could halp mountain rangers and help the blind cross a busy street. All with the proper traing. Just like all of us, there are good and bad. But banning the pit bull is just like banning a black person from somewhere. Or any person of color. But we have gotten past those times, and now it's the pitts turn.
I would just like to say that pit bulls are the cutest sweetest most loving dogs.
All dogs are cute but none compare to pit bulls for loving companionship, complete loyalty (provided, as all dogs, they are treated correctly) and a great time in the park!

hoodala, i've got to ask you, what exactly is your honest opinion on pit bulls. i read another one of your hubs that's totally bashing the breed. of course, i put my 2 cents worth in. that is what the comment section is for. do you hate the breed? do you like the breed? did something happen between this hub and the other one? or are you just looking for attention from both sides of the fence? i'm not trying to be rude, i'm just trying to understand what's up, because in one you are trying to educate people on correct handling and care and talking about what a great dog they could be, and the other is a completely fabricated fantasy story that supports breed bashing and breed genocide. please set the record straight.

i have a beatiful pitbull puppy named STAR. Me and my friend rescued a litter of nine from a shanty shack in Pritchard BC, and drove them to Abbotsford. I took STAR and my friend kept another for herself. I have no regrets, a tib-bit of my knowledge of pitbulls is you could never know enough, I am constantly reading about them. But stick to one method of traing. Redirection is key as well. Star goes pee and does her business in side, I have trouble scolding her she is just too damn cute!!!! Does anyone have housetraining tactics???????? I have just started crate training my pup....... I have a long way to go.

Pitbulls are by far my favorite breed of dog, tied with labradors. I have a pitbull mix at home right now but when I move out I plan on rescuing them. I got bored, so I taught my pitbull mix sign language. They are really smart dogs, but I think the only reason some of them nip is because they were taken away from the litter to soon, not the dogs' fault!

I own the dog in the first picture, we adopted her from the San Gabriel Humane Society two years ago. We were all surprised when a search for puppies turned up our own dog!

Did you know that "Pit Bulls" are currently the number one bred dog in the United States? Ironically, they are also one of the hardest breeds to find homes. It is estimated that there is a current average of 3 million "Pit Bulls" living in the United States and only 1 in 600 will successfully find a "forever" home. Sadly, for every 1 "Pit Bull" placed in a loving home there are 599 killed. Shockingly, that statistic unfortunately does not exclude puppies!
Roughly 200 "Pit Bulls" are killed each day in Los Angels alone because there are not enough homes for the ever-growing population of unwanted dogs. This is a frustrating problem due to over-breeding either intentionally or accidentally. Either way you look at it, it comes down to irresponsible actions by irresponsible and or greedy humans. Many people may not realize that any dog not spayed or neutered is a potential contributor to this terrible problem. The average fertile dog can produce 2 litters in one year. The average number of puppies in a canine litter is 6-10. In six years, one female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs..many or most of which will end up dead.
There are between 4,000 and 6,000 animal shelters in the United States. The number of cats and dogs entering those shelters each year is roughly 6-8 million! However, only 30% of the dogs and 2%-5% of the cats are actually reclaimed by their owners. This means the total number of cats and dogs euthanized by shelters annually is 3-4 million! It is estimated that 1 million of those dogs are "Pit Bulls".
Surely you can see how over-breeding has negatively affected the lives of so many dogs. It is a fact that "Pit Bull" breeders are directly responsible for a significant percentage of the estimated 1 million "Pit Bulls" killed by euthanasia each year nationwide.
